Seal discovered in Lake Gedern!

The enterprising Gedern groundsman Axel G. was actually just going to walk his dog early on Monday morning when he spotted another species with flippers.

"I first had to rub my eyes and shake my head in disbelief, but then I heard the haunting OINK OINK and knew it was a seal!" reports Axel G., who of course immediately informed the authorities.

"It's a mystery to us how a Phoca vitulina makes it to us in Lake Gedern," says Hubertus Alces from the district veterinary office, "The animals are not dependent on salt water like fish, for example, and a harbour seal was only spotted on the Lower Rhine in spring 2023, but here in Gedern?"

It doesn't seem so surprising to the Gedern anglers, "We've suspected for some time that a larger animal is competing with us, we haven't caught anything for days!"

It is impossible to say whether it is the same animal as in Voerde. We report further.

This is an April Fool's joke. 
In Germany, it is customary to surprise friends and acquaintances with an April Fool's joke only (!) on April 1th. Many newspapers follow this practice, so that every now and then you read a very unlikely story, such as a seal in Lake Gedern.
